Where the Taxi Drops You: Sonprayag, Then Gaurikund
No taxi from Rishikesh can drive to Kedarnath temple, or even to Gaurikund, during the yatra season. Here's how the last stretch works:
- Sonprayag: your taxi drops you at the official parking. Registration is checked here.
- Sonprayag to Gaurikund (5 km): local shared shuttle jeeps run all day. Pay on the spot.
- Gaurikund to Kedarnath (16-18 km): on foot, by pony, pithu or palki. Or skip it by helicopter from Guptkashi, Phata or Sirsi, booked on heliyatra.irctc.co.in.
On a round trip your driver waits at Sonprayag. Message them when you start coming down and the car will be ready.
